Poem: Human Rites

Relationships… an odd beginning

In ivory satin and heavy brocade

These silent arches have

Seen it all before, or never

Half-heard, the Latin words to signify

This first enchantment; candles

Shed no light, subdued by that

Greater brightness

Deciding moments pacify

The soul, stroke white-mouse thoughts

With saints in coloured glass

Conveying tranquil agonies

Gold leaf glints on fleurs de lys

Flagstones ache with cold, and I

Touch your skin to hold my lustre

Match my breath to yours

Take on your resonance, closer

Still…
