Poem: Moths

I’ve developed a fellow-feeling for moths

They blunder in

Through the back door

Enormous shadows flapping on the ceiling

I would never close the door

As you did, out of pity

Leaving me

Beating senselessly against the glass

Beating hopelessly against the glass

Beating endlessly against the glass

And knowing

Next to your brightness, I can see

And I still burn
