Poem: The Search

An endless road of shiny sand
Engulfing the land, the sky and the heavens
An oasis seems far, but the search is for meaning
For knowledge, for life
And the search is for the One.

The One, who does not see an Other
But sees an extension of this universe
The One, who extends light onto shiny sand
The One, who reaches to the core of my being
Who is being

The search for the One continues on this road of shiny sand
O Universe, help me find the One on this journey
Because I’m lost in the city of lights

  1. I enjoyed the stark contrasts of this poem. It made me want to read on to find out more about the life journey this person was travelling 🙂

    • Thank you, Lucy!

  2. Interesting poem, Dolly – it reminded me somewhat of the journey of the Three Kings, following the star across the desert. The repetition of ‘shiny sand’ is effective in linking the three stanzas, especially as one tends not to think of sand as a shiny surface. I like the way the last line surprises by taking us from the open desert to the metaphorical desert of loneliness in a city.

    • Thank you, Emily!
